Haiti Relief Efforts:
Hey everyone, our USPS carrier came by just minutes ago with information on how those who want to help in Haiti can help. His name is Peter and he Haitian himself and a member of the Premiere Eglise Baptiste Haitienne de Manhattan Church at 315 W. 141th Street, New York, NY 10030 212.491.3850. The church is having a 3 day relief effort to send items directly to a church they work with in Haiti. I wanted to work with him because I know they will be shipping the items directly down to Haiti AND they are doing a mission to Haiti at the end of February (which was actually preplanned before the earthquake) and will take more things with them then.
They are asking for medical supplies and money. The medical supplies can be bandages, gauze, Aspirin, Tylenol, Rubbing Alcohol, Hydrogen Peroxide. He didn’t give me any other specifics other than those items, but I am sure if you go to a Walmart, Target, Supermarket, or medical supply you may think of other things to send. And of course money.
If you want to donate, you can bring medical supplies to the Monif C. Plus Sizes boutique 325 W. 38th Street, Suite 1007, New York, NY 10018 (212.842.1641)tomorrow January 15th from 11am – 5pm, Saturday Jan. 16th from 12pm – 5pm. We will probably take another collection when they go to their February mission, but for now we are trying to rush medical supplies for this weekend’s relief efforts.
I would prefer not to handle anyone’s money, so call the church if you would like to send money 212.491.3850.
My heart is so heavy thinking about what is going on in Haiti. This type of disaster hopefully reiterates to all of us how connected we all are as a global family. I know there are many fantastic organizations collecting money for Haiti, I already sent money through Yele, Wyclef Jean’s charity, but I know there is more than can be done.
The post man that picks up at our boutique is from Haiti and travels to Haiti yearly on humantarian missions. He works directly with a church in Haiti and we are working to reach the Pastor there to send packages and money there. If any of you guys are interested in sending down with me and the rest of the Monif C. family, leave a comment here AND email info (at) monifc.com. Let’s also keep the Haitian people in our prayers. Google set up a great link on it’s front page with all the different organizations/ways to donate, so check it out here.
A few months back, Mia Amber Davis (model, actress, producer, and now stylist extraordinairre) asked me to borrow some clothes to test shoot plus size super model Charlotte Coyle. I never saw the final shots, but happened to run into them on Judgment of Paris, a forum that showcases plus size beauty.
